A boy fills a cup from a tap at a newly built well funded and constructed by Société Miniere De Deziwa SAS (SOMIDEZ), a holding subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNMC). The water well is one of eight such wells funded and built by SOMIDEZ to support local communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Eight water wells funded and constructed by Société Miniere De Deziwa SAS (SOMIDEZ), a holding subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNMC), were officially handed over to local communities in Lualaba Province, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on March 31.

Located across eight natural villages surrounding the mining area of SOMIDEZ, the water wells are expected to benefit more than 50,000 local residents.

The underground facilities, elevated water towers, water supply and distribution systems, solar devices, and other components of the wells all use high-quality materials.

"China and the DRC are good friends," an official from the Lualaba provincial government said at the handover ceremony. The official expressed appreciation for SOMIDEZ's support in local infrastructure construction and called on local villagers to cherish these wells, which stand as symbols of friendship.

SOMIDEZ's premises are adjacent to the town of Mutshatsha in Lualaba Province. Local villagers have been friendly and supportive toward the Chinese-funded company and the Chinese people, generously assisting with the construction of SOMIDEZ's projects.

In return, SOMIDEZ has actively fulfilled its corporate social responsibilities by carrying out "small yet smart" livelihood programs to help address the real needs of local communities.
